Aberdeen Appoints New City Attorney

Aberdeen City Council met Monday afternoon to make a change in legal representation.

Aberdeen City Council voted unanimously to appoint new legal representation for the city during a business meeting Monday.

Council and Mayor Michael Bennett voted, 5-0, to appoint Fred Sussman of Council, Baradel, Kosmerl & Nolan, P.A. to serve as the city's attorney.

Amid a number of career highlights, Sussman has served as the city attorney for Annapolis.

Suellen Ferguson, another attorney at the practice, will serve as the backup for the city.

"Both of these attorneys have a very long and distinguished career in municipal government in the State of Maryland," Bennett said.

Council moved into a closed session before returning after about 20 minutes to announce the vote.

The appointment is effective immediately.
