Aberdeen Has at Least 2 Mayor Candidates

Challenger Patrick McGrady and incumbent Michael Bennett have both turned in their applications for the November election.

It's official—there will be a race for mayor in Aberdeen this fall.

Challenger confirmed in a statement Saturday that his application to run in the Nov. 8 election was approved by the Harford County Board of Elections.

"We have been talking to lots of voters in Aberdeen," McGrady said in the statement. "People are frustrated with the ever-increasing water bills and taxes that come from . We believe that Aberdeen can be great, but we need new leadership to make that happen."

McGrady is a lifelong Aberdeen resident and an  alum.

In the statement, he cited fee increases and hikes in city-provided service bills, and said residents deserve "relief from the taxes and spending at ."

McGrady, 25, and Bennett, seeking a third consecutive term, are the only candidates to have filed for mayor. The four city council positions will be up for election, too. Incumbents Ruth Ann Young, Bruce Garner, Ruth Elliott and Sandra Landbeck have said they intend to run for reelection.

"I love Aberdeen, and I want to see our community thrive,” said McGrady, who is the only challenger to have filed for any race so far.
