Aberdeen Proving Ground to Open STEM Center

The new STEM Outreach and Education Center will host a ribbon-cutting on Tuesday.

Officials at Aberdeen Proving Ground will cut the ribbon Tuesday on an outreach center for science, technology, engineering and mathematics education.

The STEM Outreach and Education Center will coordinate efforts with more than 70 organizations and allow students to interact with scientists and engineers, according to an Army press release. The outreach center is part of an Army initiative to create student interest in the Army's education programs.

Community leaders and school officials from Harford, Baltimore and Cecil counties have been invited to attend, according to officials.

The facility is housed in a former barracks, where renovations began last November to turn it into the outreach center. The new facility includes classrooms; labs for computers and biology and chemistry experiments, electronics; wood and metal shops; and a robotics staging area, according to the release.

The facility will also be made available to Aberdeen Proving Ground organizations for meetings and training, according to the release.
