Bennett: Aberdeen Elected Officials Deserve Raise

At a meeting Wednesday, Bennett did not suggest a number, but left the specifics to a city task force.

Aberdeen Mayor Mike Bennett said Wednesday that the city's elected officials need a raise, but didn't say how much.

The Aegis reports he will leave that to the city's salary task force, with whom he spoke at a Wednesday meeting.

Other city officials have also met with the panel formed earlier this summer, according to the report. Any pay raise recommended by the group must be enacted by the City Council and mayor.

The commission was created after a controversy over pay raises proposed earlier this year for city elected officials, The Aegis reports. Bennett currently takes home $10,000 per year, while each council member is paid $7,500, according to an April Aegis report.
