On June 9, Bennett said he and other council members  attended a gala affair for Inner County Outreach. A proclamation was given.

On June 10, Aberdeen Parks and Recreation board honored several volunteers.

On June 11, there was a community event at Highland Commons apartment complex that gave civilians and opportunity to meet police in a relaxed atmosphere. It was very well attended. 

"I know the kids had a ball and they got a chance to talk with the Police Department and see the officers as folks they could relate to and that's worth its weight in gold," Mayor Michael E. Bennett said.

City Council approves Budget amendments 5-0.

General Fund:

Swim Club repairs $33,000

Winter Operations $12,000

Transfer to Capital Projects $9,500

This is a change of $54,500

"These amendments would be funded through the fund balance," said Finance Director Opiribo Jack.

Capital Projects Fund

LED Lighting   $80,000 (Funded with State Grant)

BRAC Zone Improvement Projects    $94,596 (Funded with State Grant)

Finger Print Laser Scanner    $11,908  (Funded with Federal Grant)

CDBG Projects-Street Resurfacing    $2,419 (Funded with County Grant)

Locker Room addition    $9,500 (Funded with Transfer from General Fund)

City Council declared 10 Police Department vehicles surplus 5-0 and approved selling them at a subsequent auction.

Chief Henry Trabert said 10 vehicles had outlived their economic life.

"They still run but have some mechanical problems," Trabert said. "They're vehicles that we can no longer use for our purposes."

A contract was awarded for $110,700 to Frank J. Getner of Kingville Maryland for a road resurfacing project.

7:45 p.m.

Final plat one for Aberdeen Exchange approved 5-0.

Councilwoman Ruth Ann Young said there is also an Aberdeen Exchange located on base at Aberdeen Proving Ground. "This could create confusion,"  Young said.

This project is a four lot commercial subdivision at the intersection of Newton and Philadelphia roads. Specific uses have not been identified for either property.

City Council approved the final plat 5th Re-subdivision for Beards Hill Plaza, Lot 9. Lot 9 would likely be used for office space. This project will be one subdivided lot behind Home Depot at the Beards Hill Shopping Center.

Dominique Edwards is appointed to the Board of Appeals. Approved 5-0.

An ordinance to accept the City's Comprehensive Plan is approved 5-0.

Patrick McGrady spoke during public comment.

McGrady offered to put archived City Council meetings onto a Youtube.com account at no charge to the city.

"I'll help you," McGrady said. "I'll do it for free."

McGrady said his family recently purchased the church and parsonage located at 302 W. Bel Air Ave. and is in the process of renovating the church.

McGrady asked that people with pictures of the church allow the McGrady's to copy the photos so that the church can be made to look as much like it did originally as possible.

"Stop by and check it out if you're in the area," McGrady said.

Josh Ferguson, of Ripken Baseball, made a presentation to City Council informing the community about the upcoming Cal Ripken World Series in August.

The skills competition and and opening ceremony will be held on Aug. 12, 2011. The Cal Ripken World Series, which is the culmination of the Babe Ruth league, will include 10 US teams and six international teams.

Ethan Bober receives proclamation from City Council for winning the "If I Were Mayor" essay contest sponsored by the Maryland Municipal League.

"Thank you for my certificate and proclamation. It means a great deal to me," Bober said.

The Aberdeen City Council is scheduled to vote on the city’s comprehensive plan Monday.

The ordinance regarding the comprehensive plan is attached.

Aberdeen City Council will meet at 7 p.m. in City Hall. A complete copy of tonight's agenda can be found by clicking here.

Other agenda items from the planning and development department include:

  • A discussion of the revised final plat resubdivision for Beards Hill Plaza Lot 9. This project will be one subdivided lot behind Home Depot at the Beards Hill Shopping Center.
  • Aberdeen Exchange. This project is a four lot commercial subdivision at the intersection of Newton and Philadelphia roads. Specific uses have not been identified for either property.
  • A bid award for a road resurfacing project

In other business:
