Edgewood Gets Funding For Train Station

A $1.3 million grant will help complete a MARC train stop in Edgewood.

A $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation will help complete the construction of a MARC train stop in Edgewood, two local officials announced Friday.

In a joint press release, U.S. Senators Benjamin L. Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski said the grant would cover the second phase of converting the Edgewood stop to a full station from a platform stop.

“The Edgewood MARC station is a critical stop in the MARC system, particularly in light of the significant increase in workers at the (APG) because of BRAC,” Senator Cardin, a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee, said in the release. “Improvements to the Edgewood station are an investment in jobs and in our future, and it will ensure that Harford County residents have a safer, more efficient commute to work.”

The grant covers "construction of a new station with amenities, including bathrooms, ticket vending machines, ramps to the train platform for those with disabilities, and various improvements to the roadways surrounding the station," according to the release.

Construction is expected to be complete by November 2013, according to the release.

"A strong, modern transportation and mass transit system is critical to commuters in Harford County,” Senator Mikulski said in the release. “These federal dollars will make sure that the Aberdeen Proving Ground MARC station will keep our people moving and businesses booming, especially with the great opportunities as well as great challenges that come with BRAC. That’s why I fight to put funds in the federal checkbook to help meet the increased demands BRAC places on our communities. Federal funds for Maryland transit systems help keep Marylanders on the move.”

Reach Termini on foot. Rome is a large city, but is relatively easy to navigate on foot. Termini is located in the Repubblica neighborhood of Rome, and is easily reached on foot from Esquilino, Marsala and some parts of the Colosseo neighborhoods. If you are carrying large amounts of luggage, this option is not advisable because of the rough cobblestone streets. Thanks.
