Harford County Braces for Round 2 of December Snow

Three to five inches of snow could fall Tuesday in Harford County.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to hundreds of incidents during the first round of snow that hit Harford over the weekend, and county officials said they were monitoring the forecast, which showed more wintery weather on the way.

The National Weather Service was forecasting a 100 percent chance of snow Tuesday, with 3 to 5 inches possible in Harford County. There could be up to 6 inches of snow, according to Harford County Emergency Manager Rick Ayers, who said the snow will likely come down between 6 and 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Approximately 7 inches of snow fell in Bel Air on Sunday, according to raw data from the National Weather Service. The combination of snow and ice caused dozens of motor vehicle crashes, Harford County reported.

The county's 911 center received 388 calls for service between 8 a.m. Sunday and the same time Monday, according to officials.

“Our concern now is for the possibility of more snow and ice which may develop during the next 24 hours, and lead to more accidents, injuries and electrical outages,” Emergency Manager Rick Ayers said in a Monday afternoon statement.

Nearly 3,000 BGE and Delmarva customers were without power at 8 a.m. Monday, according to Harford County Government, which closed its offices for the day due to inclement weather, along with schools and libraries.

By 5:30 p.m. Monday, approximately 141 customers were experiencing outages in Harford County, according to BGE's outage map.

Downed wires due to icing was the primary cause for the reported power outages, Harford County said.
