Smart Decision To Ban Tobacco On Government Property?

With the health concerns from second-hand smoke, tell us whether smoking should be banned from government property.

Harford County government workers who smoke may want to consider quitting as their New Year's resolution.

County spokesman Robert Thomas moderated a public hearing session where people discussed the rights of tobacco-users on government property, according to an article that appeared on explorehardford.com. The meeting was held to discuss a tobacco-free environment regulation that is expected to take effect Jan. 1, 2012.

Senior assistant county attorney Deborah Duvall, who attended the session, drafted the anti-tobacco rules. The regulations contain a provision for the county to provide a designated smoking area outside any leased county facility that is under contract to be used prior to the ban taking effect.
