State Puts $43 Million into APG Intersection Improvements

Maryland's governor announced the state was spending $1.5 billion in transportation infrastructure during a press conference Wednesday.

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley announced that the state would fund nearly $1.5 billion in transportation projects in the Baltimore metropolitan area Wednesday, including two in Harford County.

The State Highway Administration reported that $43 million will be allocated to improve key intersections along access routes to Aberdeen Proving Ground.

In addition, the state is providing $7 million for streetscape improvements along MD Route 755 in Edgewood, according to a press release from the State Highway Administration.

"To create jobs, a modern economy requires modern investments like the ones we are announcing today for the Baltimore region," O'Malley said during a press conference at the West Baltimore MARC station.

The projects in Harford County were two of more than a dozen announced Sept. 4. The most funding by far was going toward the Red Line, a project to connect east and west Baltimore, which will receive approximately $689 million.

The Transportation Infrastructure Investment Act of 2013, which created the funds for the projects, was designed to create jobs, ease congestion and update Maryland's transit network through an increased tax on gasoline.
