Aberdeen Girls Win UCBAC Basketball Title

The Eagles defeated Edgewood for the Uppper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference championship Wednesday night in Bel Air. It was the team's second straight title.

The Aberdeen girls basketball team cruised past Edgewood, 62-23, to earn the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference championship Wednesday night in Bel Air.

It was the second straight conference title for the Eagles, who have won the UCBAC's Chesapeake Division in both of those seasons.

It's the third title overall for Aberdeen, which also won the championship in 2004.

Freshman Stephanie Jones led the Eagles in Wednesday's game with 23 points, while Jimmia McCluskey added 14, according to The Aegis.

Also Wednesday, Edgewood defeated Joppatowne, 59-55, for the boys conference title.

The girls basketball team for Aberdeen is a top seed in the MPSSAA tournament, which begins next week. The Eagles are the defending Class 3A state champions.

The Eagles have a first-round bye as the top seed in their region.

The game will be aired at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 25 on the Harford Cable Network.
