Brooks Named Football Coach of the Year

Eagles head coach Johnny Brooks turned last year's 1-9 team into a contender for the state championship.

In its 2011 Fall All-Metro announcement, The Baltimore Sun named Eagles head coach Johnny Brooks Football Coach of the Year.

Brooks took a team of mostly the same players that went through a 1-9 season the year before and then this year reached the state semifinals, falling to eventual state champion River Hill.

“We’re just trying to get a new flavor over here,” Brooks said after his first game as the Eagles head coach, .

Before coming to , Brooks was the head coach at Havre de Grace, where he took the Warriors to the state championship in his last year there.

During their homecoming game, Brooks' alma mater, 21-12.

"It's like a homecoming for me, too," Brooks said after that game. "I wanted to win, but I wanted the Havre de Grace kids to play well. I was actually having a good time watching them, to be honest with you."

Brooks told The Sun he credits his coaching staff, including former and captains Kenny Faulcon, Christian Carpenter, Chavez Cheatham, Brenton Barnes and Quintel Kelly.

"They set the bar high for the kids next year," Brooks said.
