Gettin' Hoot in Here: HCC's Mascot Stays Cool in New Threads

The mascot of Harford Community College has a new look that will help the owl stay comfortable on athletic fields and sidelines in any temperature.

Screech debuted his new getup before the Fighting Owls faced off against the Cecil Seahawks on the basketball court Jan. 25, according to a release from Harford Community College.

As part of the celebration, Screech broke through a banner and "strutted his stuff" in the APG Federal Credit Union Arena, the statement said. 

His "stuff" includes a new costume featuring a cooling vest so the person inside doesn't get overheated, and a head that allows for the wearer to see better, according to the college.

"It was time to update Screech because the old mascot costume was extremely hot and the design of the head made it very difficult for the wearer to see," the college reported.

The college created a hashtag #Whoooscoming for the unveiling, which coincided with a Hall of Fame ceremony recognizing outstanding athletic staff.

People can see Screech at athletic and other events on campus.
