GIRLS HOOPS: Eagles Roll Into State Final

Aberdeen avenged to Frederick last year by drumming the Cadets, 80-50, in the state semifinal at UMBC's RAC Arena.

The Eagles (26-1) will play (20-4) at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Class 3A state championship game at UMBC's RAC Arena.

The Eagles will play for their first state title. River Hill is seeking its second after winning in 2006.

Aberdeen was led Thursday by junior Bri Jones, who led all scorers with 25 points and also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.

Jimmia McCluskey and Nia Alleyne each had 14 points, and Lakeia Hayden scored 12.

Twelve Aberdeen players got on the court for coach Stacey Liles. Eight of them scored.

The Eagles led, 36-27, at halftime, and pulled away with a 20-8 run in the third quarter.

Lauren Tolson scored 20 points for Frederick (20-6) in the loss—a rematch of  in the state title game.

This year's Aberdeen team has been dominant.

Aberdeen won its first three playoff games by an average of 25 points, with nobody coming closer than 18 points.

Aberdeen didn't lose until the final week of the regular season, claiming an Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference title in the process.

In the earlier Class 3A state semifinal Thursday, River Hill snuck past West Lake, 59-54. The Hawks were led by Alauna Jackson's 16 points and 10 rebounds.
