GIRLS HOOPS: Eagles Seek History Tonight

Aberdeen plays River Hill at 8 p.m. Saturday at UMBC.

Aberdeen has state championship banners in many sports.

But not girls basketball.

That could change tonight, when the Eagles girls basketball team plays in its second consecutive MPSSAA state championship.

In Thursday's semifinal, the , exacting revenge of sorts for . Aberdeen won, 80-50, behind 25 points and 13 rebounds from .

In a game that ended right before Aberdeen's semifinal tipped off, River Hill snuck past West Lake, 59-54. Alauna Jackson's 16 points and 10 rebounds paced the Hawks in the win.

River Hill will have to turn up the offense to hang with Aberdeen tonight. The Eagles are averaging 76 points per game in the postseason, and have scored in the 80s in the region final and the state semifinal. The Hawks are averaging a little more than 54 points per game in the postseason.

River Hill won the 2006 state title game, while Aberdeen is seeking its first championship.
