Aberdeen Eagles Fly Past Edgewood Rams 68-57 in Final Regular Season Game Victory

Aberdeen finished the regular season on a high note as they beat Rival Edgewood Rams Friday night at Edgewood High school.

The Aberdeen boys basketball team beat Edgewood by 11 points Friday in the final game of the regular season.

In a slightly less than full Edgewood gym it was easy to see that playoffs were getting close. Both teams gave their all in this Route 40 rivalry. Both teams were firing on all cylinders in the first quarter, playing good defense and working hard on offense.

Aberdeen got into foul trouble early. Tevon Saddler was saddled with foul trouble for most of the game. At the end of the first quarter the score was Aberdeen 16, Edgewood 15.

The second quarter was much like the first. Both teams tried to make adjustments to pull away but neither could. The halftime score was Aberdeen 32, Edgewood 29.

Both teams played much tougher defense at the start of the second half. Midway through the third quarter only 8 total points had been scored. But Aberdeen would start to find a groove toward the end of the quarter.

In the fourth quarter Aberdeen stretched the lead to as many as 13. But Edgewood battled back, cutting the lead down to 5 with two minutes left as Aberdeen briefly got careless with the ball.

But as the clock expired, Aberdeen senior Gerrae Williams stepped up and showed his leadership. Williams took over ball handling duties and then took over the rest of the game.

Aberdeen beat Edgewood 68 to 57 in a road win that left Williams feeling satisfied with his final performance of the regular season.

"I feel like I went out with a bang," said Williams. "I thought Edgewood was going to catch us but we held out.”

Williams, who scored a game high 20 points, said he does expects to continue his basketball career.

"I will be playing basketball next year where is yet to be determined,” Williams said.
