Former IronBirds Infielder Christian Walker Picked for Futures Game

Manny Machado isn't the only former Aberdeen IronBird headed to Citi Field this month.

Christian Walker, an IronBirds first baseman in 2012 who now plays for the single-A Frederick Keys, will play in the All-Star Futures Game at Citi Field on July 14, two days before park hosts the major league All-Star Game. The Futures game pits top American minor league prospects against a team of prospects hailing from other countries.

The Baltimore Orioles drafted Walker, a University of South Carolina alum, in 2012. In 81 games this season split between Delmarva and Frederick, he is batting .312 with 97 hits, 10 home runs and 50 RBIs.

Machado played in 2012's Futures game in Kansas City. He was named to the All-Star Game's American League reserves on Saturday, joining teammates Adam Jones, J.J. Hardy and Chris Davis, who were elected to start.
