Nick Markakis began his professional career in Aberdeen.

Next week, he'll have a homecoming of sorts.

The IronBirds host a three-game series with Staten Island July 1-3 and return to Ripken Stadium July 11.

Markakis will be evaluated again Friday, as he has not yet been cleared to swing a bat.

Markakis will join Class AA Bowie July 4 and 6, as he continues to work toward a return while the Orioles are on a West Coast road trip.

That road trip leads into the All-Star break. It's likely Markakis will return to the Orioles after the break.

In 50 games this season, Markakis is batting .256 with eight home runs and 26 RBIs.

In his lone season with the IronBirds in 2003, Markakis batted .283 with one homer and 28 RBIs in 59 games as a 19-year-old.

Markakis was named to the IronBirds all-decade team this spring.
