Ripken Sr. Foundation Announces 7K Run

The run is set for the 13th anniversary of Cal Ripken Jr. breaking Lou Gehrig's record for consecutive games played.

The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation is marking the anniversary of one of Baltimore's most iconic sports moments with a run through Aberdeen.

The first "Streak Thru Aberdeen" 7K will be held at Ripken Stadium on Friday, Sept. 6, the 18th anniversary of Cal Ripken Jr.'s 2,131st consecutive game, foundation officials announced Friday.

Funds raised by the 7K race—for Ripken Sr.'s No. 7—will go to support the foundation's programs, which include sports-themed programming for underprivileged youth.

“The Harford County and Aberdeen communities have always been extremely supportive, and we’re excited to have the opportunity to bring this race to Cal’s hometown in celebration of the anniversary of him passing Lou Gehrig’s record for consecutive games played," Steve Salem, president of the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, said in a release.

Registration for the 7K is $30 for participants who sign up by June 30, and $15 for children under 10. Entrants can sign up online. The top three male and female runners in each age group will receive a bat signed by Ripken Jr.
