Swinging For Fences, A Car And The Homeless

Harford Family House holds its annual home run derby fundraiser at Ripken Stadium.

Competitors in Tuesday's Home Runs For The Homeless event will have two unique opportunities.

They'll be swinging for the fences at , and a chance to win a new car at the same time.

The event, which benefits the Harford Family House, will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Teams of four will swing for the fences and targets set up around the cavernous home of the .

A 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport 4x4—which is valued at $37,000—from Jones Junction will go to a participant who hits a specific target on the field.

Teams will be scored on distance of their combined hits. The winning team will receive a trophy.

The event will be capped by an awards celebration—which is free to participants and $35 for other guests—on the club level at the ballpark.

Participants will have access to the clubhouse, batting cage and dugout at the home of the .

 Mayor Michael Bennett, who serves on the Harford Family House's Capital Campaign, will throw out the first pitch.
