Aberdeen Junior Wrestling Trains Winners

The nonprofit, volunteer wrestling organization has a 40-year history of serving the community.

Aberdeen Junior Wrestling is an extracuriccular activity for children in kindergarten through eighth grade.

President Don Ewing, vice president Tim Mortus and head coach Scott Grace run the volunteer program on weeknights at

"It's a good thing for the community. It gets kids off the streets," said Ewing. "Keeps them in shape."

Under the coaching of his father, CJ Allen, an eighth grader, has thrived in the program and plans to wrestle for Aberdeen High School.

"It's good to keep them in shape because nowadays kids are playing video games a lot or won't do any activites after school," said coach Chris Allen. "I have five boys so I just try to keep them as busy as I can."

"Being teased a lot about how I'm not going to be as good as him, I just want to prove him wrong," CJ Allen said with a smile.

A  will be held on Nov. 27 to support the wrestling program.
