Ravens Linebacker to Speak at Boys & Girls Club Event

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Jameel McClain will be the keynote speaker at the March 22 Steak & Burger Dinner. It's the 22nd year for the event, which contributes to the while recognizing the young people who benefit from the organization.

Many of the children may aspire to be like McClain—a veteran linebacker for the Ravens who experienced homelessness earlier in life.

"We are honored to welcome Mr. McClain to this year’s Steak & Burger Dinner, as his is a journey of overcoming adversity, embracing opportunity, and never losing hope. I am sure Mr. McClain’s story will resonate with the young people of Boys & Girls Clubs," Boys & Girls Clubs board member Diane Smith said in a news release.

More than 500 people attended .

Tickets for the event are $60 each, or $600 to serve as a table sponsor. Tickets and sponsorships are available at www.bgcharfordco.org or 410-272-0010.

The event will include the naming of the 2012 Youth of the Year for the . The recipient of the highest honor a member can achieve will also be given a $1,000 scholarship.

More than 2,000 children total—and 400 children on a daily basis—are served at the four sites of the Harford County chapter.
