Keys to Awesomeness: Hard worker, leader, dedicated, strong academic ethics, solid family support system

Deen Wright recently accepted an academic scholarship to Howard University where he will play division I-AA football for the Bisons and major in finance, according to his mother Eboni Wright.

Deen Wright, who is an honors student, "has been nominated for a scholar athlete award and scholarship from the Greater Baltimore Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame,” Eboni Wright said.

She said her son has also been nominated for the Bud Bitzer Football Scholarship from the Birds of Prey, Raven's Nest No. 1, and was one of two athletes chosen to represent Aberdeen High at the MPSSAA Student Leadership Conference.

Lindecamp said Deen Wright has achieved the following successes: All-conference offensive lineman, four-time starter on the Aberdeen High School varsity football team, member of the track team and member of the science and math academy. And he has maintained an impressive 3.8 GPA, Lindecamp said.

"He's a great kid, very respectful, sportsmanship on and off the field," Lindecamp said.

John Siemsen, Aberdeen High School's head football coach had many great things to say about Deen as well.

"Deen's drive to succeed has been evident ever since he was a freshman," said Siemsen. "Deen's grades made him highly sought after by colleges like Princeton, University of Penn, Williams College, Holy Cross and more."

His parents Keith and Eboni Wright, of Aberdeen, said, “Howard holds a special significance to the Wright family.”

Keith Wright said he played on the undefeated Bison football team that won the MEAC Conference in 1993. Eboni Wright was an honor student at Howard when she met her husband in swim class. They later married at the college.

"The faculty, staff and coaches are all proud of Deen," Lindecamp said.
