Gabrielle Johnson is 11 years old and she attends Aberdeen Middle School. She and her family relocated to Aberdeen five years ago from South Carolina, according to her mother Latoya Johnson.

''Gabrielle is a very good kid," Johnson said.

Nominator Amber Stewart, the Teen Program Assistant at the Aberdeen Boys & Girls Club, has many good things to say about Gabrielle, a club member.

"She listens. She follow directions and is always willing to help," said Stewart. "She is not a follower, she is a leader."

Gabrielle is an honor roll student at Aberdeen Middle School. She carries anything from a 3.0 to a 3.7 GPA.

"Gabby," as she is affectionately called, plays basketball for parks and recreation in Aberdeen. She plays percussion in the middle school band and has completed the STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) program at the Boys & Girls Club.

When asked about her future aspirations, Gabrielle said she wants to play basketball for the WNBA or become a professional drummer.

Marcus Robin, the athletic director at the Aberdeen Boys & Girls Club, said Gabrielle participates regularly in all the fitness and recreation programs at the club.

Gabrielle finds inspiration from a familiar source.

"I look up to my mom," she said.
