APG Oktoberfest Rescheduled Due to Government Shutdown

The festival was slated for this weekend.

The APG Oktoberfest has been postponed, Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) announced Monday.

The second annual Oktoberfest was supposed to take place the weekend of Oct. 11 but was postponed "because of the federal government shutdown," APG said in a press release Oct. 7.

The new dates for the festival will be Oct. 25 to 27.

During the last weekend in October, the German-themed festival will bring puppeteers, jugglers, musicians, dancers, a 5K, bratwurst, local officials and of course plenty of beer to APG. It will take place at Shine Sports Field on base.

The three-day event is designed to "foster relationships and continue to strengthen existing bonds with the surrounding communities," according to APG, so there will be salutes to various neighbors of APG throughout the festivities. Salute ceremonies will feature APG and local government leaders recognizing their commitment to the post. The schedule is as follows:

  • Salute to Bel Air and Havre de Grace; 4 to 11 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25
  • Salute to Aberdeen and Edgewood; 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26
  • Salute to Cecil County; noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27
There will be fireworks at 9 p.m. on Saturday. Find more information on APG's Oktoberfest page.
