Harford Technical High School Briefly Locked Down Monday

School officials and police determined there was no threat and the lockdown was lifted.

Harford Technical High School was placed on lock down Monday morning after a person followed a student into the building. School officials soon learned there was no real threat, however. Lock down protocol was immediately put in place after staff buzzed in the student and the person who followed did not report to the office, according to Teri Kranefeld, manager of communication with the school system. The Harford County Sheriff's Officeinvestigated and soon learned the person who walked in with the student was an employee at the school, Kranefeld wrote in an email to Patch. The lock down had been lifted as of 10:30 a.m. and students and staff were carrying on with the typical school day. "The student and staff should be commended for their…

If parents know they are to go to the office to register, you'd think an employee of the school system would stop in as well. This employee of HCPS, not of Harford Tech directly, should be reprimanded for causing such a ruckus that could have been avoided.   more ›

The Upper Cheapeake Bay Athletic Conference includes teams from Harford and Cecil counties.

Rivalries add depth to the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference. But, according to one official, fights among rivals are rare. A rivalry between Fallston and North Harford's varsity lacrosse teams was solidified earlier this month when a fight broke out during a game. Video of the altercation was posted to YouTube.com following the April 12 varsity boys game at North Harford. The video is attached to this article. Ken Zorbach, supervisor of athletics with Harford County Public Schools, confirmed there was a fight at the game. "It's been dealt with," Zorbach said. Suspect Headed for Aberdeen, Schools Locked Down after Gas Station Robbery

The man who allegedly robbed a convenience store at gunpoint was in a white SUV, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

After a Churchville Road gas station was held up Friday morning, three Harford County schools went into lockdown, Cristie Kahler of the Harford County Sheriff's Office said. According to the sheriff's office, a man with a bandanna over his face brought a handgun into the Xtra Mart on the 2400 block of Churchville Road (MD Route 22) and left with an undisclosed amount of cash around 8:05 a.m. The lockdown was "standard operating procedure" to ensure that students were safely inside Harford Technical High School, John Archer School and Prospect Mill Elementary School, Kahler said. The schools are within one mile of where the robbery was reported. "Whenever there's been an armed robbery...it's a normal safety precaution," Kahler said. The …
