Aberdeen will allow larger containers for recyclables, provided they carry the new sticker.
Aberdeen residents are recycling so often, the small green and blue tubs the city once provided are no longer big enough to do the job. So the city is allowing bigger containers, and before doing so, it's holding a design contest for a new sticker to put on those containers. "I think we're going to come up with some pretty neat stuff," said Matt Lapinsky, Director of Aberdeen's Department of Public Works. See the attached PDFs for the rules and the submission form for the contest. Residents have until 3 p.m. on April 5 to submit a 4-inch-by-9-inch sticker design. Aberdeen City Council honored its department of public works Monday.
Aberdeen City Council honored the city's department of public works Tuesday for achieving 100 percent compliance with state and federal regulations in 2011. Three members of the city's water and wastewater staff were on hand at Monday's City Council meeting to be recognized for their leadership and efforts to meet that goal. "They're routinely honored in the state for their work," Aberdeen Mayor Michael Bennett said. "I would put our DPW folks up against any other DPW in the state of Maryland. They just do a fantastic job." Mayor Michael Bennett recognized Director of Public Works Matt Lapinsky and DPW staff leaders Paul Visser, George Skinner and Rob Crouse. City Manager Doug Miller added, "These guys represent, and the crews that work …
