Aberdeen Nonprofit Adopts Families for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving came early at Harford Family House.

The weekend before Thanksgiving, 23 families were treated to a feast through Harford Family House. Based in Aberdeen, Harford Family House provides transitional housing for homeless families with children. In addition, the nonprofit organization offers case management, life skills and social support to help families become self-sufficient. Twenty-three families, plus people and organizations that sponsor them, were in attendance at last weekend's Thanksgiving feast, which organizers described as "fabulous." Wegmans donated and catered the holiday meal. An author read a story from her soon-to-be-released children's book, and a balloon artist was also on hand. Aberdeen Man Raises Awareness Through 'Dance for the Cure'

Justin Coulter partnered with former Ravens player O.J. Brigance to support those with ALS.

A recent event at the Aberdeen American Legion Post #128 united two local partners to raise awareness about ALS. Justin Coulter, a member of the Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Company who is also a Marine, joined the Baltimore-based Brigance Brigade Foundation in hosting "ALS Dance for the Cure" on Nov. 17. The Brigance Brigade Foundation supports ALS research, funds equipment for people suffering from the disease and offers other other resources for those with ALS. It was cofounded by O.J. Brigance, who was a special teams player for the Ravens during its Super Bowl victory in 2001 and is now a senior adviser to the Ravens, with his wife after he was diagnosed with ALS in 2007.
