Lacrosse: Aberdeen Boys Varsity Team Wins Record 9th Game

The team beat Harford Tech Wednesday, 11-8

With an 11-8 win against Harford Tech Wednesday, Aberdeen High's varsity boys lacrosse team secured their ninth win, a school record. "I am immensely proud of the boys' effort," coach Hinson White said in an email. "All but a handful of them never picked up a lacrosse stick until they got to high school. They have worked tirelessly to close the gap." Aberdeen jumped to an early 2-0 lead, but Harford Tech evened the score and led at the half, 6-4. They scored one more goal before Aberdeen went on a 7-goal streak, White said in the email. Top performers included junior attack Kyle Peters (4 goals) and senior attack Justin Howard (3 goals, 2 assists). IronBirds to Host IronFest This Weekend

The free event Saturday will include the final round of the competition to find Ripken Stadium's new announcer and a Q&A with manager Matt Merullo.

The Aberdeen IronBirds will lead the 2013 season with the annual IronFest Saturday at Ripken Stadium. The free event will include a Q&A on the club level with new manager Matt Merullo, the opportunity for kids to take the field, and the final round of The Voice, the club's competition to find its new public address announcer. The top eight vote-getting finalists will compete in front of a panel of celebrity judges. Country musician Chris Monaghan will also perform. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets for 2013 games will be on sale at the event. The IronBirds, an Orioles short-season class-A affiliate, open the season June 17, when they host the first in a three-game set against the Hudson Valley Renegades.

Aberdeen Rugby Club Advances in Playoffs

North Bay Rugby Club hosted Virginia Rugby Football Club Saturday.

Aberdeen's North Bay Rugby Club defeated Virginia Rugby Football Club from Charlottesville, VA, on Saturday, advancing in its league playoffs. Here's a recap of the match from reader Ben Lloyd. On Saturday, North Bay defeated Virginia Rugby Football Club 41-12 in the first round of the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union playoffs in front of the home supporters at Demarco Park in Aberdeen. Eight-man Dave Faimanifo scored two tries, with Flanker Will Thompson and Outside Center Nadir Mechairia also touching down.  Scrum-half Tim Andon scored two tries to go with 11 points from the boot, bringing his game total to 21 and earning him man-of-the-match honors. North Bay now moves on to the semi-finals of the Mid-Atlantic playoffs this weekend in …

Aberdeen Beats Bohemia Manor, 11-3

The Eagles secured a convincing win with a big performance from senior attacker Blaiser Curtis.

Aberdeen High School was never in danger of falling behind against Bohemia Manor.  The Aberdeen Eagles notched a convincing 11-3 win over the Eagles... of Chesapeake, MD.  Senior attacker Blaise Curtis scored a team-leading six unassisted goals Wednesday en route to victory.  Blaise was joined by fellow goal-scorers senior Justin Howard and juniors Kyle Peters and Eric Whittie.  The breakdown: The boys are back in action on Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Rising Sun High School.  Follow Aberdeen Patch on Facebook and Twitter and don't forget to sign up for the daily newsletter.

Boys Soccer: Eagles Stomp Cobras, 5-1

Aberdeen defeated Harford Tech in boys soccer Thursday.

The Eagles scored four goals in the second half to put Harford Tech away in a 5-1 win Thursday afternoon in Aberdeen. Aberdeen improved to 4-3-1 with the victory. Justin Howard and Flakron Salihu scored two goals each and Madoni Flores added another goal in the offensive outburst. » Have photos or video from the win? Share them by posting them on this article. Howard also had an assist, as did Joe Nichols, Devin Murray and Andrew Frazer. Thomas Moore made two saves in goal for Aberdeen, while the Eagles forced Tech's Adam Bednarek to make seven saves.
