All weekend Havre de Grace marks the bicentennial of the British attack on the city during the War of 1812 with a weekend of events. Havre de Grace also hosts the annual decoy and wildlife art festival. The Towsontown Spring Festival returns, bringing, food, music, rides and kids activities to downtown Towson. The free street festival will be held Saturday and Sunday. Friday marks the start of the annual festivities with Towson Gardens Day. The date has been set, but who is—and more importantly—who do you want, to see show up? The fourth annual Lardarius Webb Charity Softball Game will be played on June 2 at 4:30 p.m. at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen. Money raised from the game benefits underprivileged schools in Baltimore City and Harford County. "Over the past three years, The Lardarius Webb Metropolitan Foundation has worked closely with The Boys and Girls Club of Metropolitan Baltimore and The Boys and Girls Club of Harford County to improve their learning environments, provide Internet/computers to children's schools in need, and create unforgettable experiences for all," reads the latest release about the game. Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco visited an Aberdeen McDonald's Monday after signing the richest contract in NFL history.
Joe Flacco went to Disney World after winning the Super Bowl last month. So where would he go for an encore Monday after signing a contract that made him the highest-paid player in NFL history? An Aberdeen McDonald's, of course. Twitter user hjnorm posted the photo, saying: "After signing new contract, where does Joe Flacco stop to eat? Aberdeen McDonalds drive thru" According to ESPN, the Super Bowl MVP ordered a 10-piece chicken McNugget meal with an unsweetened iced tea while driving through the McDonald's at Beards Hill Road and MD Route 22—conveniently located a short distance off Interstate 95 on Flacco's trek back to his New Jersey home. A state senator wants a new state bird; one man's technolgical fortress is his castle; and the Senate president feels snubbed by Obama.
It's not a statue in front of the office building that bares his name but Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller did receive a bust of himself this week courtesy of the Regional Manufacturing Institute. Sen. Kathy Klausmeier, a Perry Hall Democrat, gave a sneak preview of the small, light-weight bust of Miller moments before presenting it to the Senate's top dog. "You can't have too much Mike Miller," Klausmeier said. The technology is similar to what was used in a scene of Jurassic Park 3 where a copy of a velociraptor's larynx was recreated. The institute offered legislators in Annapolis the opportunity to have themselves scanned into a computer and get busts of themselves. Miller seemed impressed with the petite bust but joked that it …
