James Murdza was inducted into the HCPS Educator Hall of Fame at Monday's Board of Education meeting.
James Murdza was inducted into the HCPS Educator Hall of Fame as its 173rd member during last week's Harford Board of Education meeting. In 1959, he began his 30-year career teaching at Jarrettsville, Slate Ridge and Highland Elementary Schools. In 1963, Murdza transferred to Edgewood High School where he taught music until his retirement in 1989. During his 30 years with the county, Murdza contributed to the start of many programs such as the jazz program, which later was added as a credited course throughout Harford County Public Schools. He also played an instrumental part in expanding the HCPS music program to include piano lab, music theory, and jazz improvisation. The Harford County Board of Education elected Rick Grambo as president and Nancy Reynolds as vice president during Monday's meeting in Bel Air. Grambo, vice president earlier this year, has served as interim president since board president Dr. Leonard Wheeler died in September. Reynolds, who was a board member before her appointment Monday night, thanked fellow board members and colleagues for their support. “I want to make sure that all the parents, students and staff of Harford County Public Schools know that I will continue to support to provide quality education to all our students,” Reynolds said. Pat Skebeck was inducted into the Educator Hall of Fame at Monday's Board of Education meeting.
Patrica L. Skebeck was inducted into the HCPS Educator Hall of Fame as its 172nd member during Monday’s Harford Board of Education meeting. She began her 30-year-career with Harford County Public Schools as a third grade teacher at George D. Lisby Elementary School. She then went on to serve as teaching assistant principal at Meadowvale Elementary, where she would teach fifth grade classes in the morning and then cover the office in the afternoons. Skebeck continued on, becoming full-time assistant principal at Hall's Cross Roads Elementary, where she was eventually promoted to principal. Toward the end of her career, Skebeck was promoted to Executive Director of Elementary Education at the school’s central office. Under her guidance, …

Patricia Skebeck was inducted into Harford County Public School's Educator Hall of Fame at Monday's board of education meeting.
Former teacher and administrator Patricia Skebeck became Harford County’s Hall of Fame’s 172nd member at Monday’s Harford Board of Education meeting. After receiving numerous awards from the Harford County school system and Harford County Council, she joked with the audience, "Who was that person they were talking about? I’ve forgotten some of that stuff." Skebeck, who was the interim superintendent following the premature death of Superintendent Jacqueline Haas, retired in 2009 serving Harford County Public Schools for 30 years. With her family in attendance, Skebeck took the time to thank the Retired School Personell Association as well as Superintendent Robert Tomback, the board of education and her family for their continued support …

The Harford County Board of Education met Monday night in Bel Air.
The Harford County Board of Education welcomed two new members prior to Monday's meeting. Havre de Grace resident Thomas Fitzpatrick, appointed by Gov. Martin O'Malley to represent Havre de Grace, and Patterson Mill High School senior Panashe Mutombo, the student representative for the 2012-2013 school year, were sworn in Monday. Mutombo, with his family in the audience, was excited and grateful for this new adventure as Student Representative to the Board of Education. "I'm happy to be here," he said. "I'm happy to initiate a good year with all of you. I've seen all the good work that you guys have put in here and I see the effects through the schools and I'm just proud to be here."
