A tip that an Aberdeen man was suspected of dealing drugs sparked a two-year drug smuggling investigation that led to charges against 15 people, the Harford County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday. The Harford County Task Force filed charges against 15 individuals—from Bel Air, Middle River, Havre de Grace, Aberdeen, White Marsh, Towson, Edgewood and California—after extensive operations that included wire-tapping and undercover police work, the sheriff's office said. In addition to the arrests, the investigation led to the seizure of 140 pounds of marijuana, 20 guns, 14 vehicles and more than $140,000 in cash, police said. Todd E. Johnson pleaded guilty Monday in Harford County District Court.
A Harford County Sheriff's Office deputy was sentenced to three years probation Monday after pleading guilty to bribery. As a condition of the plea, Deputy First Class Todd E. Johnson resigned from the sheriff's office, according to a release from the Harford County state's attorney's office. Johnson, a seven-year veteran of the sheriff's office, gave Final Notice Recovery and Location of 4501 Curtis Avenue in Baltimore unauthorized access to police databases. The business is desribed as a towing company that repossesses vehicles for banks and creditors, according to a release from the sheriff's office. Two Port Deposit residents employed by Harford County were charged with theft and scheming after they were suspected of repeatedly stealing gas from Scarboro Landfill, the Harford County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Thursday. Government officials reported to the sheriff's office that Tracy L. Sexton, 43, and James E. Doran, 46, were using the county fuel pumps at the landfill to gas up their personal vehicles, police said. Both individuals worked for the Harford County Department of Public Works; Doran was employed at the waste disposal center in Street and Sexton with the division of highways, according to Robert Thomas, Harford County Government spokesman. Police have identified the victim as Kevin Scott Street, 37, of Aberdeen. A quick-thinking bank worker thwarted a robbery attempt at a Harford County bank Saturday morning, officials say. Harford County sheriff's deputies responded to the 1800 block of Emmorton Road for an attempted robbery at the Sovereign Bank. Responding deputies reported that at about 9 a.m. a man who was hiding in the bushes near the bank attempted to rob it when the manager began to open the doors for the business day, according to a statement from the sheriff's office. The suspect rushed toward the manager, displaying a black handgun, police said. A Joppa man was assaulted and robbed Thursday morning in Edgewood, and police have charged two men with the crime. Rodney Dion Williams, 33, of the 1800 block of Simons Court in Edgewood, is charged with robbery, second-degree assault and theft less than $100, according to court online records. Steven Michael Mack, 34, of the unit block of East Bel Air Avenue in Aberdeen, is facing charges identical to Wiliams, court records show. Medical examiners have ruled the death of an Edgewood man found dead in his home Sunday a homicide. Robert Wesley Johns, 51, was found dead from a gunshot wound inside his Edgewood home on the 1700 block Fountain Rock Way, according to a news release from the Harford County Sheriff's Office. Around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies were called to the home to check on Johns' well-being. When they arrived, the door was locked, but they heard the sound of the television from inside and saw blood on the door, according to the release. Around 8:05 a.m. Friday in the 2400 block of Churchville Road, a white male wearing all black and a bandanna over his face entered the Xtra Mart, according to spokeswoman Cristie Kahler of the Harford County Sheriff's Office. Kahler said the man displayed a handgun and ordered the employee to go into the back room while he collected cash.
