Harford County Public Schools Closed Wednesday

Snow is in the forecast Wednesday in Harford County.

UPDATED (6 a.m.)—Harford County Public Schools will be closed Wednesday due to a winter storm. Harford Community College is also closed. In an email around 4:45 a.m., Harford County Public Schools spokesperson Teri Kranefeld said, "Essential Personnel should await further instructions before reporting for duty." Employees are on Code Green, Kranefeld said, which means offices are also closed. Harford County government was anticipating about 4 to 6 inches of "heavy, wet snow," it said in a call to residents Tuesday evening. Harford County Anticipating Heavy, Wet Snow

Harford County Emergency Operations Center will activate at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Harford County will partially activate its emergency operations center at 8 a.m. Wednesday to prepare for a winter storm. Harford County Emergency Manager Rick Ayers, in an automated phone message to county residents around 6 p.m. Tuesday, said the county is anticipating the heaviest snow during the day Wednesday, with up to six inches of snow possible. Wind gusts up to 40 mph are also possible, Ayers said. Earlier Tuesday, the National Weather Service was projecting up to 10 inches of snow for parts of Harford County. Heavy Rain in the Forecast for Aberdeen Tuesday

Rain will continue until Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Harford County and most of the state are bracing for hazardous weather, which the National Weather Service said would be hitting Maryland Tuesday afternoon. Rain should start at about 3 p.m. according to the weather service, and we can expect moderate to heavy rainfall Tuesday afternoon and evening. In all, Aberdeen may see between one to one-and-a-half inches of rain, which will continue through Wednesday. On the water, a small craft advisory is in effect due to high winds. According to the forecast discussion, this time of year there is more rainwater runoff than there is rain soaked into the soil.  Runoff coupled with the amount of rain forecast can lead to small streams and creeks rising out of their banks, according to the weather …

Snow, Sleet Forecasted for Harford Friday

The National Weather Service reports that the wintry mix is slated to begin after noon in Harford County.

Those planning to leave the office for lunch may want to stay indoors Friday. The National Weather Service predicts that rain and sleet are likely to start after noon. Snow and sleet accumulation are anticipated to be less than half an inch, with temperatures near 39, according to the weather agency. Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued for Harford County

Rain and show showers are expected to start early Saturday morning.

Following a mild Friday, the National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the greater Baltimore metro area, including Harford County. Rain and snow are likely after 1 a.m. Saturday, the weather agency predicts. The overnight snow accumulation is expected to be less than half an inch, with temperatures around 38 degrees. Snow and rain are forecasted to continue intermittently throughout the day on Saturday, with temperatures near 43 degrees and an additional less than half inch of snow accumulation. The weather agency also anticipates snow between midnight and 2 a.m. Sunday, with a low around 32. Another bout of snow is possible between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Temperatures are expected to drop down to a brisk 25 degrees …

Harford County Schools Opening Late Friday

Freezing rain and a wintry mix caused a delayed opening to end the week.

Due to freezing rain and a wintry mix, Harford County Public Schools are opening two hours late Friday. Morning pre-K and preschool services will not be held. John Carroll School will also open two hours late, with a 2:40 p.m. dismissal for all students. Harford Day School will also open two hours late. Hazardous Weather Forecasted for Harford County

A wintry mix is predicted for Thursday night.

Winter storm Nemo may be pounding the New York City area with 30 inches of snow, but Harford County residents are in for much milder winter weather. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for central Maryland, the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, northern Virginia and D.C. The outlook warns of a possible light wintry mix and freezing rain. Rain that may be mixed with snow and sleet is expected to fall Thursday night, and will turn to all rain after 4 a.m. Friday, according to the weather agency. Temperatures are predicted to range from a low around 34 to a high near 39.
