The Aberdeen girls basketball team will try to repeat as MPSSAA state champions when they face River Hill at 8 p.m. on Saturday at UMBC's RAC Arena.
Aberdeen will look to repeat when it plays River Hill in the Class 3A state championship Saturday. The Eagles (22-1) advanced with a 71-50 semifinal win against Damascus on Friday to set up a rematch with the Hawks for the state crown. Aberdeen defeated River Hill, 62-48, to win the title last March. Aberdeen (22-1) and River Hill (23-3) meet at 8 p.m. Saturday at UMBC's RAC Arena. It'll be a matchup of Aberdeen's stellar offense against River Hill's tight defense. Aberdeen has won its four playoff games by an average of 73-44. River Hill won its four games by an average score of 51-29. Aberdeen has played in the state tournament four times prior, winning the championship last March after losing the final in 2011. The Aberdeen girls basketball team advanced to the MPSSAA's final four on Friday.
Aberdeen won its third straight girls basketball region championship Friday, moving one step closer to defending its state title. The Eagles (22-1) defeated City, 73-45, to win the MPSSAA Class 3A North region crown and advance to the March 7 state semifinal. Aberdeen will face Damascus (21-2)—which defeated South Hagerstown, 60-42 in Friday's Class 3A West region final at 7 p.m. on March 7 at UMBC's RAC Arena. River Hill (21-1), which Aberdeen defeated for last year's state title, advanced Friday and plays Friendly (19-2) in the other Class 3A semifinal. The MPSSAA state swim meet was held in College Park.
The C. Milton Wright girls set three county records and paddled to a second-place finish in the state swim meet Saturday in College Park. C. Milton Wright took second in the MPSSAA girls meet, and fourth in the boys meet, as the top representatives from Harford County. The Mustangs girls topped last year's record in the 200 medley relay, swimming a 1:53.24, besting the 1:54.82 set last year. They won the state title by three seconds. Part of both of those relay teams was Lauren O'Mara, who also broke her own county reacord in the 100 breast stroke with a time of 1:06.70. The defending champion Aberdeen girls basketball team is a No. 1 seed in the postseason.
Despite a far different regular season, Aberdeen reaches the end of February much like it did a year ago—with its sights set on another deep playoff run. Some 11 months after winning the Class 3A state title, the Eagles girls basketball team will head into the MPSSAA region playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the Class 3A North region. Aberdeen earned a first round bye and will host the winner of Patterson and Franklin on Feb. 25. A win there means the Eagles host the region semifinal on Feb. 27. The Mustangs won the regular season crown, led by an undefeated girls team.
The C. Milton Wright swim team won the regular season championship in Harford County. The Mustangs girls (15-0) led the way for the team, which also went 15-0. The boys were 14-1. Congrats to CMW for the win, and to ALL the SWIMMERS who worked just as hard and did an amazing job!!! This was the WORST hosted HS event EVER! The people that ran it were on major power trips and nothing but RUDE! Sad that you cant even go to a High School event and enjoy the teams there and the people.. Aberdeen staff that were there most definitely took it away from our swimmers. Saw the head …   more ›
