UCBAC: 11 Region Champs in Harford & Cecil Counties

A by-the-numbers look at the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference's performance in the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association postseason tournament.

Five Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference teams will compete Tuesday in hopes of continuing their quests for a state championship. Two of them will square off for a state title. Conference Commissioner Bob Slagle offered a glimpse at the numbers behind the conference's postseason success: Region champions, according to Slagle, included: "Perryville boys and girls track, Harford Tech girls track, Edgewood boys track, Fallston boys and girls lacrosse, Bo [Manor] and Bel Air baseball, Patterson Mill boys lacrosse, CMW girls lacrosse and Perryville softball." Tuesday will be a busy day for some of those teams. Fallston and Patterson Mill meet in the Class 2A/1A boys lacrosse championship at 6 p.m. Tuesday at UMBC Stadium in Catonsville. …

This Week: 5 UCBAC Teams Seek State Titles

The MPSSAA state finals are being held this week in lacrosse, baseball and softball.

The Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference will be guaranteed of at least one trophy returning to Harford and Cecil counties, as five teams compete in the MPSSAA baseball, softball and lacrosse state tournaments. Fallston and Patterson Mill meet in the Class 2A/1A boys lacrosse championship at 6 p.m. Tuesday at UMBC Stadium in Catonsville. Also competing this week are the Bel Air and Bo Manor baseball teams, and the Perryville softball team. They'll play in state semifinals on Tuesday with hopes of reaching the state finals later this week. Bel Air plays North Hagerstown at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Joe Cannon Stadium in Anne Arundel County. Aberdeen Girls Win UCBAC Basketball Title

The Eagles defeated Edgewood for the Uppper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference championship Wednesday night in Bel Air. It was the team's second straight title.

The Aberdeen girls basketball team cruised past Edgewood, 62-23, to earn the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference championship Wednesday night in Bel Air. It was the second straight conference title for the Eagles, who have won the UCBAC's Chesapeake Division in both of those seasons. It's the third title overall for Aberdeen, which also won the championship in 2004. Freshman Stephanie Jones led the Eagles in Wednesday's game with 23 points, while Jimmia McCluskey added 14, according to The Aegis. Also Wednesday, Edgewood defeated Joppatowne, 59-55, for the boys conference title. The girls basketball team for Aberdeen is a top seed in the MPSSAA tournament, which begins next week. The Eagles are the defending Class 3A state champions. …

Hoops: Aberdeen Girls Play for UCBAC Title Wednesday

The Eagles will square off with Edgewood in a game at C. Milton Wright.

The Aberdeen girls basketball team is playing for the conference championship Wednesday.  The Eagles and Edgewood will square off at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the title matchup at C. Milton Wright. Edgewood (16-6 overall) won the Susquehanna Division, going 14-0 in division play. Aberdeen (19-3 overall) was unbeaten in division play, as well, going 12-0 against Chesapeake Division opponents. » See the full UCBAC standings for both boys and girls in the charts with this post. Eagles Boys Basketball Plays On After Forfeits

Aberdeen High School was forced to forfeit most of its boys basketball wins this year.

Aberdeen lost 11 games Monday alone. Aberdeen Athletic Director Tim Lindecamp and Harford County Athletics Administrator Ken Zorbach confirmed to Patch Monday that the Eagles boys basketball team would forfeit its wins through Feb. 1 after using an ineligible player. But a day after the Eagles' victories had been forfeitted, they forged on, winning Tuesday night against Patterson Mill. The Eagles defeated Patterson Mill, 58-52, on Tuesday at Aberdeen High School. It was a statement victory for Aberdeen—which vacated an 8-1 division mark and 13-4 overall record, but will continue its boys basketball season. Before forfeiting all games up until Feb. 1, the Eagles' win Tuesday would have furthered their efforts to play in the Upper Chesapeake…

Thanks for the comment. I'll have to update the girls team with a story—you're right. That said, while this story does have some negative news included, I did write it from the positive perspective that the team is playing on, not giving up, and they in fact won their first game out after this became public.
