The Harford County executive slammed the state legislation that required the fee, however, saying leaders have 'no concept of the financial decisions' of citizens.
In a statement Friday, Harford County Executive David Craig thanked the County Council for working with him to pass a state-mandated stormwater remediation fee, which he called a "heavy-handed mandate." The bill, which The Aegis reported passed the Council on April 16, created a $12.50 fee per residential property, only 10 percent of the $125 originally proposed. The Harford County legislation also offers credits up to 100 percent of the fee for remediation done by a property owner. "While we all share a desire for a clean, healthy, and vibrant Bay, this desire must be tempered by a consideration of what we can afford when Marylanders face high unemployment, lower incomes, and tighter household budget," Craig said in the statement. Harford County will use the Eastern Sanitary Landfill in White Marsh to dispose of solid waste starting in 2016, Harford officials announced Tuesday.
Harford County Executive David Craig announced Tuesday plans to dispose of the county's solid waste in Baltimore County when the existing agreement with the U.S. Army expires in 2016. The estimated annual cost for moving solid waste and recyclables to the Baltimore County transfer station is $13.4 million. The new agreement with Eastern Sanitary Landfill also means the county no longer plans to build a waste transfer station at the former Plecker Golf property in the 800 block of Philadelphia Road in Joppa—a proposal that was met with strong community opposition. The county currently disposes of solid waste at the Harford Waste Disposal Center on Scarboro Road in Street and the Waste-to-Energy facility in the Edgewood Area of Aberdeen …

After contract negotiations for a new building at Harford Community College stalled Wednesday in the Board of Public Works, Harford County Executive David Craig had some choice words for the Maryland lawmakers involved. "I urge Governor [Martin] O’Malley and Comptroller [Peter] Franchot to set aside personal politics and allow construction of the Towson University facility at Harford Community College to proceed," Craig said in a statement Wednesday evening. Towson University had been planning to construct a three-story academic building called Towson Center on Harford Community College's west campus, which would offer bachelor's degree programs. The Towson University branch on campus was intended to provide Harford and Cecil county …

The world's three prime credit rating agencies have given Harford County the same ratings it had last year, County Executive David Craig announced Wednesday. In 2013, Moody's and Fitch each gave Harford AAA ratings. Standard and Poor's gave the county a rating of AA+. These were the same ratings the county received last year. The Havre de Grace native may be running for governor.
Campaign contribution reports were due to the Maryland Board of Elections this week, and Harford County Executive David Craig's latest data puts him behind four other potential gubernatorial hopefuls. Martin O'Malley, a Democrat, took office in 2008 and is term-limited. Craig was one of "the leading Republican prospects," according to The Baltimore Sun. Our County Council is not in favor of it. There's just, generally, not any desire to do speed cameras [in Harford County]." » Listen to the audio here The proof is in the action—or inaction. While the county and its three municipalities—Aberdeen, Bel Air and Havre de Grace—may have discussed the viability of speed cameras behind …
