Arson at Aberdeen Hilton Under Investigation

The fire caused structural damage to the hotel on Beards Hill Road.

A weekend fire at Aberdeen's Hilton Garden Inn was believed to have been set intentionally, the Office of the State Fire Marshal reported Tuesday.

Eight firefighters responded to the hotel at 1050 Beards Hill Road after the fire alarm went off at approximately 9:52 p.m. on Nov. 9.

The blaze, which broke out in the housekeeping room, was out by the time firefighters arrived, according to Deputy Howard Ewing, who said employees used a fire extinguisher and buckets of water to put it out.

The fire caused $500 in structural damage, according to the fire marshal's report, which said the cause was determined to be "incendiary," meaning that the fire was intentionally set.

Ewing said that the fire is being investigated as an arson. Anyone with information may contact the Office of the State Fire Marshal at 410-836-4844.
