New Commanding Officer Installed at Proving Ground

The new commander took office in a ceremony Tuesday.

A new commanding officer is in place at Aberdeen Proving Ground.

On Wednesday, Maj. Gen. Peter D. Utley took the reins of the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command from Maj. Gen. Genaro J. Dellarocco, who had run the unit for nearly three years, according to a release.

Vice Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. John F. Campbell administered the ceremony as the ATEC colors were passed from Dellarocco to Utley, who then gave the flag to Sgt. Maj. Carlton Handy, the command's top enlisted soldier, according to the release.

“Words like integrity, leader, supporter and character show the passion, and the love, in the audience here,” Campbell said in the release. “We got it right with Gino [referring to Dellarocco]. He took this on with vigor and discipline.”

Campbell also hailed cost savings Dellarocco brought to his program, according to the release. Dellarocco, who is retiring, received a Distinguished Service Medal Tuesday.
