"Its not easy to lose one of your own and its not easy for me a 40-year veteran of law enforcement to lose one of our officers," Bennett said.

"Nothing but really good memories. We’ve lost a tremendous police officer in the city," Bennett added. "He’s a guy that would make you laugh. He was full of energy."

Jason Neidig, president of the Harford County chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police and an Aberdeen police colleague, issued a statement to Patch on Armetta's passing.

"I am saddened and at a loss for words in the untimely death of Brother Charles Armetta," Neidig wrote. "Brother Armetta was a dedicated officer and very involved with the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge No. 128. Not only do I grieve for his family but for his wife and their daughter who turns 1 on Monday. The F.O.P. will offer any and all support to the family and the officers."
