Devices Detonate Mailbox, Burn Car Near Aberdeen

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating two incidents in Perryman.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's office is investigating incidents that led to a car blaze and an explosion in a mailbox Sunday evening outside of Aberdeen.

The incidents took place in a 90-minute span in the Perryman community.

Around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, the Aberdeen Fire Department and Harford County Sheriff's Office responded to the 1400 block of Perryman Drive for a vehicle fire. A Yukon Denali XL, from an unknown year, was found "totally consumed by fire in a field" in the rear of an industrial park, Deputy Chief Mark A. Bilger announced via email.

The fire marshal said the blaze was caused by an incendiary device in the interior of the vehicle, and was controlled in 10 minutes. It resulted in a loss estimated at $13,000, according to Bilger

At 7:52 p.m., the Aberdeen Fire Department responded after an explosive detonated in a custom steel mailbox in the 2100 block of Gulf Drive.
