Fire at Edgewood Townhouse Displaces 13 People

The fire was reported Saturday night.

A blaze that started inside an Edgewood townhome displaced 13 residents over the weekend, according to the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company.

At 8:41 p.m. Saturday, someone called 911 to report a kitchen fire in the 1700 block of Judy Way, according to a statement from Joppa-Magnolia, which reported fire showing from the back of a three-story, middle-of-the-group townhouse on its arrival.

The blaze extended into an adjacent home but firefighters said they quickly extinguished it.

Crews from AbingdonKingsvilleAPG-EdgewoodBel Air and White Marsh were alerted, according to the statement.

Brookside Drive and Gateway Road were closed during the firefighting effort, which reportedly involved more than 60 firefighters and more than 18 pieces of fire equipment. 

The blaze was declared under control at 9:23 p.m. Saturday, the report stated.

There was significant damage to the townhouse where the fire was believed to have originated and minor damage to the adjacent house, according to the report.

No injuries were reported but 13 people were displaced between the two homes; the victims were receiving help from a disaster assistance group, the report stated.

The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause and origin of the blaze.
