Extinguishers Aid Crews at Morning Fire

A fire broke out in the 500 block of Plaza Court Friday morning.

Maintenance staff at an Abedeen apartment complex used fire extinguishers to control an apartment fire as volunteer fire crews were on their way to battle the blaze on the 500 block of Plaza Court Friday morning.

Crews from Aberdeen and Level volunteer fire companies and the Susquehanna Hose Company responded to the scene in the apartment complex off Northeast Road just before 10 a.m.

Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association, said maintenance staff at the apartment complex used nine fire extinguishers to put out the blaze.

There were no injuries, Gardiner said.

Gardiner said the fire was kept to one apartment, and damage was limited to two units. Smoke had infiltrated four other apartments by the time crews arrived, he said.

The light brick apartment building showed signs of smoke damage on all three floors, but crews were focused inside the rear window of a ground level unit, with fire extinguishers lining the curb outside.

Residents from the building and neighboring apartments gathered to watch as crews investigated the scene.
