Aberdeen Police Shoot Man Firing Gun Near Motel

A man was reportedly firing a gun in the area of the Economy Inn on Tuesday night in Aberdeen.

A man is in stable condition at University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma center Tuesday morning after he was shot by an Aberdeen police officer Monday night.

In a news release early Tuesday morning, Aberdeen police said the unidentified man was reportedly firing a gun in the area of the Economy Inn at 692 South Philadelphia Blvd. around 11:34 p.m. Monday. When officers arrived, they found the man, who drew a handgun. One officer fired two shots, striking the man once in the upper body, according to the release.

The man was initially transported by Aberdeen Fire Department paramedics to Harford Memorial Hospital. He was later taken to shock trauma, police said.

There were no other injuries in the incident.

The officer involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave.

Neither the officer nor the subject involved were identified in the news release.
