Eagles Win Region, Advance To State Semifinals
The Aberdeen girls basketball team advanced to the MPSSAA's final four on Friday.
Aberdeen won its third straight girls basketball region championship Friday, moving one step closer to defending its state title.
The Eagles (22-1) defeated City, 73-45, to win the MPSSAA Class 3A North region crown and advance to the March 7 state semifinal.
Aberdeen will face Damascus (21-2)—which defeated South Hagerstown, 60-42 in Friday's Class 3A West region final at 7 p.m. on March 7 at UMBC's RAC Arena.

River Hill (21-1), which Aberdeen defeated for last year's state title, advanced Friday and plays Friendly (19-2) in the other Class 3A semifinal.
In the Class 2A bracket Friday, Patterson Mill advanced to the state semifinals for the second straight year.

Aberdeen has won its three playoff games by an average of 73-42.
Damascus, the West region's top seed, is also holding opponents to an average of 42 points per game in the postseason. The Swarmin' Hornets are averaging 57 points per game.
This marks Damascus' fourth trip to the state semifinals, with the most recent coming in 2004.
Aberdeen has played in the state tournament four times prior, winning the championship last March after losing the final in 2011. The Eagles also reached the semifinals in 2002 and 2003.
